The Holiday Season

Last week we went up for the last night of Chanukah and Christmas. It was so nice to light the candles at my parents' house using the menorah we've used since I was a kid.
Steph sent a box of awesome gifts, including a foot massaging ball and a SUP ornament for Matt to match my runner girl from last year.
Match made in heaven.
I got myself a little gift as well!
Christmas was a lovely, laid-back affair this year. Matt and I went to his dad's early for breakfast. Tammy really outdid herself this year; we had hash browns (prepared as a casserole for all the gluten-y folks), eggs, bacon, sausage, OJ, and coffee.
How cute is that mug?!
After breakfast we opened gifts. Our presents this year definitely say a lot about where our lives are right now. We got lots of things for the house - decorations, a deep fryer, a comfy afghan, and gift cards to home improvement stores - and Matt got me a bluetooth keyboard (so I can write on my iPad) and Jaybird bluetooth headphones.
I'm not sure why Matt is blurry in this one!
We got Dave and Tammy a Chromecast and spent the morning setting it up and playing with it. My parents and I got Matt a GoPro and some of the necessary accessories, which he immediately tried out.
This year I didn't run on Christmas. For some reason I just haven't been very motivated. But lately I haven't done much running - the holidays, travel, and house updates (more on those later) have gotten in the way - and I'm okay with the time off...But I can't let it go much longer. It's time to get serious again. Kristin and I are debating running the A1A marathon in February, and if I decide to sign on for that I'll need to get back into training.

I know after all the yummy holiday goodies I've been over-indulging in, my waistline will thank me.

I hope you all had wonderful holidays!

Did you enjoy the holidays?
What was the best gift you gave this year?
Did you receive anything you know will be put to good use?

  1. Those ornaments are cute. :) House gifts are always fun. I got a pull up bar for at home, I definitely plan on putting that to use!

  2. Your ornaments are awesome! And yes, that mug is the cutest thing ever.
I loved the holidays this year :) I can only pick top 3 gifts: a NEW CELLO, the comfiest pj's ever, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows written in French :)
I know the cello will be put to very good use - I already want to practice all the time :)

    1. Oooh a new cello!! That's awesome. I wonder how HP translates...I wonder if some of the humor/jokes/puns are still funny in French!

  3. I love how your running ornament is in shorts and a tank and the running ornament I have (here in Nova Scotia) is wearing pants and a long sleeve! LOL. I am not sure why I just noticed that. :) I was thinking that the picture of Matt on the board was super clear! That's with the Go Pro? I've never used one of those but they seem awesome!

    1. Haha, our running ornaments are dressed appropriately for our climates I guess!

That pic is from the GoPro. It takes beautiful shots but everything is wide-screen so sometimes the pictures/selfies look bowed.

  4. I love your ornaments! And I am super jealous of your headphones! I think I am going to have to purchase a pair for myself here soon. I left my favorite pair in Oregon when we visited and I've been using broken ones ever since. Another marathon in February!?! You are awesome.

    1. I didn't want ANYTHING for Christmas but last minute remembered I wanted a pair. I'm still trying to figure out the size that fits best.

I won't know for another couple weeks if I'll be able to do the February full, but it would be fun!

  5. I love those ornaments! Very cute! My running group is doing the A1A this year (I'm not running but will be there to support everyone). It seems like it's going to be a great race :)

    1. I've heard great things about A1A! I'm a little wary of the possibility of a hot February. Last year it was really warm.

  7. Supercute ornaments! Your menorah is beautiful as well. I've never done SUP, but would love to. My favorite gift this year (aside from the awesome gift cards for workout clothes) was a necklace from the bf- unexpected :)

    1. New workout clothes - especially when you can pick them yourself - are always awesome. But a surprise piece of jewelry is definitely a plus!
