Weekly Workouts 6/20-6/26

Monday: Two rounds of Blogilates. You know what's weird about ab workouts? They burn SO much during but as soon as you're done holding a move, the pain goes away! I don't even feel like I've done a workout until DOMS sets in.
Tuesday: Elizabeth was leaving for Nicaragua to visit family that evening, so we fit in our last workout together on Tuesday morning. Usually we do speed work at night; it was hard to remember what I like to eat before an early, hard-effort run. I ended up just having a Gu (salted caramel, with caffeine); it's been awhile since I've eaten one and the texture was super gross, but it ended up being the perfect fuel for the morning.

We did 8 x.3 repeats. The first was slow (around 9:25) as we woke up, but after that everything was in the 7:40s. I felt unstoppable; I would have done two more repeats and I regret not going a little longer, but it is what it is.
Between rotations we did upper body (presses, bicep curls, tricep dips, and push-ups) and when I got home I did a few minutes of abs and iced my heel. I've been having a little pain in it that I think is mild, early PF. I've had this symptom before, so I'm just icing, massaging, and stretching diligently. Hopefully it goes away soon!

Wednesday: Rest.

Thursday: I created a lower body/core circuit and completed it while watching Castle reruns.
I was pretty proud of myself for putting burpees in there because I hate them, but I'm trying to learn to love them.

Friday: I went out for a moderate-paced run without a goal pace or distance in mind. I just knew I had to at least complete a 5k. It was my first solo run in months, and I just wanted to enjoy the golf course, my music, and my thoughts. I paused at one point to take a picture of a rainbow I saw. I ran in and out of the sprinklers. I generally just enjoyed myself.
Even though I'd already donated to the official GoFundMe for the Orlando victims' families, I signed up for this virtual race (the proceeds also go to the Orlando families) as well. Tonight was a good night to run it. I feel like that rainbow was kind of a sign.

Saturday: Lots of errands and work today...I was going to do some core work, but ended up resting.

Sunday: I slept fitfully Saturday night; I think being on prednisone for my allergies this week is messing with me and giving me insomnia. After waking for the fourth time around 3am, I turned off my alarm (which had been set for 4:30) and planned to run long in the evening.

So in the end, I did a quick circuit instead. I'm really enjoying creating these myself, and I like that they're a fast workout but effective! I like that I can do them at home whenever I want, no matter the weather.
Burgees-In-Progress are hilarious!

This is the first run I've missed in months, and I'm pretty unhappy about that...although maybe I should be impressed with myself for fitting something else in, instead! Oh well; nothing I could about it this time around!

  1. Do you just love sitting out on your porch during a rainstorm??? I would love that.

    I think it is great you did a circuit since you couldn't run! Whenever I make a circuit they are way harder than just going out for a run. I bet that's how you make them too!

    HAHAH BOOB SWEAT!!! Somehow I get boob sweat too but I don't have boobs!!

    1. Sitting outside during a rainstorm is so calming and wonderful. I do love it!

      Maybe we should start calling boob sweat PEC SWEAT since we're both small-chested haha.

  2. Nice work! I lol'd about the boob sweat...I get it too ��. I thought of you this weekend because I test drove a countryman. Sadly won't be joining the mini family (at least right now). My daughters car seat would have been a snug fit in the middle of the back bench seat. I love your mini though! So cute! ��

  3. Hahhaa boob sweat! I'm glad you included that text screenshot because I thought it was just a blue gradient and my first reaction was "that sports bra is really pretty, I should get it too" Turns out it's more of a DIY thing where I have to work up the sweat to get it! :D

    1. Yes, this bra is particularly gradient and partially sweat-soaked. It's also about 5 years old lol!

      DIY ombre bra colors...I think there's a market for that!

  4. You're getting so fast! 0.3 mile repeats at 7:4X pace, how awesome! I used to do circuit workouts somewhat frequently, but I haven't done many since I started running more often. I think they are great though, and you are motivating me to at least do some body weight exercises while I'm watching TV!

    1. Glad to pass on the motivation! Sometimes starting is the hardest, but once you're moving (especially if there's a show on in front of you) it feels good!

  5. Hey, you're really kicking butt with all those circuits and calisthenics. Even the dreaded burpees. I'll bet you're getting fitter/faster than ever. Nice work!

    You did great with all the circuit workouts!
    I think ice is great idea for that heel, it is amazing how many of us are getting the heel twinges. I have spurs, so from time to time they will ache, but ice seems to do the trick for me.
    Pretty cool to see a rainbow on your virtual run for Orlando families :)

    1. Cassey Ho can be a little grating to some people, but I like her spunk and positivity during workouts! And they HURT.

  9. OK, I'm doing those abs workouts tonight! I usually do a pilates one with the magic ring but should mix it up. I love that you saw a rainbow on your 5K to benefit the Orlando families. It does seem like a sign--as bad as the world can be, there is always hope. And I'm right there with you on burpees. They're my least favorite exercise, but I know they pack a powerful punch and I should really do them.

    1. The Blogilates workouts are really intense and fun if you can stand Cassey Ho's constant positivity (which I personally like). I'm beginning to enjoy burpees! OMG!

  10. Great job with your workouts, Ali! I need to start doing speedwork like you, you're flying out there! Love the rainbow while on your run, and I hope you're able to keep your heel pain at bay! My shins still bother me a bit on some runs, but the awful calf pain is gone at least!

    1. I'm hoping my speed work pays off as I begin to build mileage. It's easy to hold those paces for 400 or 800 meters, but who knows how that will translate to race days?!
